01

Start with cohorts and context

Compare results across meaningful groups and consistent exam versions rather than relying on one overall number.

02

Investigate item performance

Look for questions with unexpected difficulty, weak discrimination or patterns of skipped responses.

03

Close the loop

Translate insight into learner feedback, follow-up practice and improvements to the next assessment.

04

Separate achievement from participation

Report submitted, incomplete and unstarted attempts separately. A low average can mean weak understanding, a difficult paper or missing attempts. Show the denominator and release status so readers understand what each metric includes.

05

Connect trends to learning actions

Identify sections where accuracy, completion or time differs meaningfully from the rest of the exam. Compare the pattern with the assessment blueprint. The useful output is a targeted teaching or practice decision, not another dashboard number.

06

Keep comparisons defensible

Compare cohorts only when exam versions, marking rules and conditions are sufficiently similar. Label small samples and avoid rank without context. Record question and scoring changes so reports do not combine results that measure different things.

07

Share the right level of detail

Give instructors enough detail to improve teaching while giving leaders a concise view of trends and follow-up actions. Protect candidate privacy in small groups, explain how each measure is calculated and let readers reach the supporting exam or section report.
